The Mbore have been involved in translation and literacy since David and Alice Parrish began a work among them in the early 1980s. People have been trained as translators and literacy workers and the Mbore board of management is doing a good job of providing oversight to the program. Nearly half of the New Testament has been drafted but much work remains in checking and revision.
One area of concern is that the literacy program seems to be faltering. Previously there were four vernacular pre-schools functioning in various Mbore villages. Presently only one is operating. Little work has been done in the past few years in the area of adult literacy. Two Mbore men have been trained as literacy specialists but both of them have been involved in other projects and have had little time to work on literacy. We are praying for an increased interest and involvement in literacy among the Mbore.
Prayer Points
- Pray that this year all four vernacular pre-schools will operate.
- Pray that an adult literacy program can be established among the Mbore.
- Pray for a good year of checking and revising the scriptures that have been drafted.
- Pray that Thomas and Francis, the two literacy specialists, can make time this year to push the literacy program ahead.
- Pray that God would encourage Steven Piki, Denny Ram, the main translators for the Mbore people. He has been working long and hard on the translation. Pray that we can see some more scriptures published in this language soon.
