A translation awareness workshop was held in Kayan in October 2002. There seemed to be some interest in Bible translation but the main village leader, a man named Teddy, did not express much of a desire for vernacular scripture. His lack of vision affected the rest of the participants. Teddy is very interested in preserving the culture and the Kayan language so he wants vernacular literacy. We are praying that God will change Teddy's heart so that he can get a broader vision of how God's word in the Kayan language can bless the people.
Prayer Points
- Pray for Teddy and the other Kayan leaders that God would give them a vision for Bible translation.
- A writers' workshop was held in April 2003 with 14 participants. Pray that out of these the Lord would raise up literacy and translation workers.
- A translation team of five men were selected to attend the translation workshop in June but for some reason they did not show up. We have received no word from the Kayan leadership about why the team did not come. Pray that the Lord will encourage them to attend the next translation workshop.
