Kathy and I have decided to start our furlough a bit earlier than planned.

The five language groups of the Ottilien langauge family are located around the mouth of the Ramu River in the Madang Province of Papua New Guinea. Kyle and Kathy Harris started a ministry of Bible translation and outreach among the people of these language groups in 2001.

Because these languages are closely related, our approach to translation is to use a suite of computer programs to adapt existing books of the Bible in one language into the other four languages. Rather than do all the work ourselves, we are committed to training the Papua New Guinea nationals to do as much of the translation, literacy, and computer work as possible. Through this training, the people of these language groups become heavily involved in the process and develop ownership of the translation program.

The goal of the Lower Ramu Bible Translation Ministry is to see the Kingdom of God manifested in each of the language groups through the work of Christians who are committed to applying Biblical principles to their daily lives.
